| I first went to the USA in
January 1970 aged 17 on an exchange from my English school with
Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. Many visits have followed
over the years for both business and pleasure. That initial trip had a
profound effect on me through friendship, politics, music, literature,
film, landscape and more. "England and America are two countries
divided by a common language" - an idea attributed to George Bernard
Shaw. There was much that was familiar and plenty that was alien. All of it fascinating and memorable. |
